Easy Tips to Extend the Life of Your Car

Posted by Auto Surgeons on

You love your car, right? It gives you the freedom to get errands done, make your way to work and wander the roads aimlessly when you have that little downtime that you crave so often. A nice drive to nowhere in particular can be overwhelmingly refreshing. So for as much as your car takes care of you, it is important that you take care of it. By completing a few small acts you can ensure your car remains healthy for miles and miles.

Keep Up with Oil Changes

Be sure that you never put off oil changes. Most vehicles require these services every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but some even less frequently. However, it is often recommended that to keep your engine in peak operating condition the oil should actually be changed more often than called for by your vehicle's maintenance schedule.

Rotate Tires

Rotating your tires is a great way to help extend their life as an individual part. Tires left in one corner of the car will begin to wear in a way that is unlike the rest of the tires. To get the most out of your tires be sure to rotate them as recommended by the vehicle's or the tire's manufacturer.

Cooling System Flushes

The cooling system is what regulates the engine operating temperature. It uses a specialized fluid called antifreeze, also known as coolant. From time to time this fluid needs to be drained and refilled to ensure that it is free of contaminants so that it can continue to properly complete its job.

Washing in Cold, Dry & Rainy Seasons

Washing your vehicle in the winter isn't just about keeping it looking its very best, it has more to do with protecting it from rust and corrosion. Winters are generally more wet than other seasons, which means your car is subjected to excessive mud being kicked up from the road. Letting this dirt, which is just a ball of dirty moisture, sit on your car can lead to rusting issues.

Filter Changes

Be sure to replace fuel and air filters as called for by your owner's manual. Keeping these parts clean will ensure proper flow of these vital ingredients to a well running engine.

Inspect Brake System

Inspect Brake System every 6 months/7,500 miles
